UPHOLD:Understanding that Parents Have Options for Learning Disabilities
Do you have a child with a learning disability? Parenting a child with learning disabilities can be a lonely journey. It can sometimes feel like there are two worlds: the one that other moms and dads inhabit, and the isolated and often frustrating one that you live in. Do you feel you need an open, supportive, educational setting to share your experiences? UPHOLD offers the chance to help you overcome this sense of isolation.
WHAT UPHOLD OFFERS:
  • Discussions-a chance to share your own experiences.
  • Professional direction on current issues that relate to parenting and teaching children with learning disabilities.
  • Guest speakers
  • Books, websites, handouts and other resources that can help.
  • The opportunity to learn from others who have experienced similar situations.
UPHOLD is a group for anyone associated  with children who have learning disabilities. We meet the third Tuesday of each month. Our meetings begin at 7:00 pm at Little Rock Christian Academy. The tentative schedule for the 2008 year is as follows:

May-"What do I do with all these tests?" (Note change of presentation)
June-"My life as a Dyslexia Child"
July- ADHD strategies & medications
August-Special Education Process
September-Organizational Skills
October-The Involved Dad
November-LDAA's Annual Meeting
December-Enjoy your holiday! No meeting.
Parenting children with learning and attention disabilities presents special challenges. The family faces many difficulties not only dealing with the child's everyday academic and associated social and emotional problems, but the struggle of living with a learning disability. Gain strength and encouragement by joining with others in the LDAA's group UPHOLD:Understanding that Parents Have Options for Learning Disabilities. Together we can learn better coping strategies and skill training while receiving the emotional support of other parents of children with learning disabilities.
